New Air Time for Greater Boston Area

Starting June 4, 2011, From the Top will air on 99.5 All Classical in Massachusetts on Saturdays at 5pm.

This is part of a WGBH initiative called “Classical Kids,” providing education, entertainment, games, videos and resources designed to bring kids closer to classical music.

You can still listen to From the Top on-demand on our website each week. New shows are posted each Monday afternoon. This week’s show was taped on April 16, 2011 at the University of Maryland in College Park and features:

  • Pianist Kimberly Hou, 16, from Arlington, VA, performs IV. Fuga: Allegro con spirito from Sonata by Samuel Barber
  • Violinist Brian Hong, 17, from Fairfax Station, VA, performs Sonata No. 4 by Marco Uccellini accompanied by Christopher O’Riley on harpsichord – Be sure to check out the video of Brian explaining the differences between a baroque and contemporary violin!
  • Guitarist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist John Williams, 16, from Wintersville , OH, performs II. Valseana & III. Preludio e toccatina from “Aquarelle” by Sérgio Assad
  • Bassoonist and Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Sandra Bailey, 18, from Atlanta, GA, performs I. Allegro con moto from Sonatine by Alexandre Tansman
  • Juilliard Pre-College Division Piano Trio (violinist Dawn Wang, 17; cellist Xinchi Wang, 17; and pianist/composer Conrad Tao, 16) from New York, NY, perform “Eventide” by Conrad Tao
