Congratulations to 16-year-old Chaz Salazar on receiving From the Top’s $10,000 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. The Phoenix, Arizona flutist began studying music at his public school when he was 10 years old. He continues to study flute at Rosie’s House in Phoenix and participates in Arizona’s High School All-State Orchestra and the Phoenix Youth Symphony. He will use his Young Artist award money to attend a summer music festival in Canada and to travel for college auditions.
Check out his performance of Francis Poulenc‘s Sonata for Flute and Piano on From The Top’s broadcast from Mesa, Arizona on your local NPR stations this week and online at fromthetop.org.

Please go to http://www.zinch.com/voting/Regionals.aspx?GroupId=23 and vote for SAMANTHA KELLEY for Michigan. Voting starts the Wednesday, 25th. It’s worth $20,000 and I made it through the first rounds of competition. Also, if you create a Zinch profile (which really helped me in my college search process) and mention that I helped, I get more points AND your vote counts as 2 instead of one. http://www.zinch.com/Anonymous/StudentRegister.aspx?affid=324845
Please send this as an email/rewrite this as a note and tag your friends, as this is a voting competition. Thanks!
